A strong and durable hardwood favored by woodworkers for cabinetry and furniture making
Oak generally comes in two varieties: Red Oak and White Oak. Oak has a straight grain with a coarse texture. One of the more durable and rot-resistant woods, it is often used in boatbuilding among other applications. Oak is very easy to work with and generally produces good results in woodworking, which explains why it is a popular wood for carpenters and woodworkers alike. Oak has a characteristic smell to it that most find appealing and is abundant with availability in a range of thickness, such as flatsawn or quartersawn lumber. In general, White Oak is slightly more expensive than Red Oak.
